Use numbers like 40.1em for min-width

I always set min- and max-width with ems.
But if I set a max-width of 40em for one grid and a min-width of 40em for the next grid, then both are shown at 40em screen width.
This could be easily avoided by setting a number of 40.1em, for example. But that doesn't seem to be possible.
What can I do?
